Tom Hardy: I'll fight a boxer

31st July 2012

Tom Hardy has jokingly challenged a professional boxer to a fight, saying it would be an "experience".

The well-built actor has seemingly agreed to step into the ring with heavyweight champion David Haye. The brave star will not only be fighting against one of the best sportsman in the field, but it will be the first time he takes part in such a challenge for real. He appeared in 2011 movie Warrior, where he played a mixed martial artist.

"I've never fought a professional heavyweight, it'll be an experience," Tom told British newspaper The Sun. "I would obviously prefer my first professional fight to be against someone in my weight category but hey-ho."

The British actor had one condition for his potential bout in the ring. Tom will risk his Hollywood looks for the battle providing all money made is donated to charity.

If David thinks Tom will be an easy competitor then he might be in for a surprise, as the fitness buff trains with his ex-SAS and RAF friends in dangerous locations in between filming his movies. He is renowned for his honed physique and showed off his huge muscles in The Dark Knight Rises.

"Hardy v Hayemaker [David's boxing name]? No problem. Let me take my make-up off first. I'll fight him as soon as I get back from the Congo with my mates if he wants," Tom joked. "This is sort of like Mickey Rourke. But Mickey's a better actor and boxer than me. How about singing lessons instead?"

Mickey famously quit Hollywood to become a boxer, making his comeback with 2008 film The Wrestler.

Tom's fighting talk comes after David said he'd love to climb into the ring with the Hollywood star earlier this week.

"Me and Tom Hardy, that would be a good fight for sure," David said. "He has got in fantastic shape he looks like an absolute tank. He can be my next opponent."
