Cast: Vijay, Genelia D’souza
Rating: 2.5/5
Are you ready to keep logic aside and engage yourself for more than a couple of hours in a world of fun and fantasy?
Velayudham may be the right choice for you this festive season. For this wholesome entertainer, starring Vijay, directed by Jayam M Raja is worth every penny you spend.
It is definitely a Deepavali treat for Vijay fans. For others too, it would be an entertainer but an illogical one. Velayudham is a no-brainer that could make you laugh, groove to the songs and also instill anger in you against bad things.
Bharathi (Genelia D'Souza), a television journalist conducts sting operations and shows the world the real face of corrupt people. She earns the wrath of powerful people and amidst all this; a couple of her colleagues get killed too. She decides to put an end to the menace for which she creates an imaginary character called Velayudham, claiming that he would teach a lesson to evil elements.
And then enters a happy go lucky milkman Velayudham (Vijay), who leads a content life with his younger sister Kaveri (Saranya Mohan) and cousin Vaidegi (Hansika Motwani). He gets the shock of his life when he comes to the city to withdraw the money he had saved for his sister's wedding.
Series of events ensure that Bharathi meets Velayudham and she urges him to give life to the imaginary character she had conceived. From here starts a roller coaster ride, where Vijay and Jayam Raja ensure that not a single minute is wasted in pumping fun and fantasy among the audience.
Vijay is cool and casual all through. The risks he has taken in the stunt sequences are mind blowing. Hansika and Genelia serve the purpose of their characters, while Santhanam tickles the funny bone well with his one-liners. Shayaji Shinde, Sampath Raj, Manivannan are there to add support.
Vijay Antony's music, be it songs or background score, give life to the script. So is Priyan's lens which does all the talking. Hollywood stunt choreographer Tom Delmar has presented a treat to Vijay fans with his breath taking action sequences. V T Vijayan's editing is a great strength to the script.
To sum it up, Velayudham, produced by Aascar V Ravichandran, might not work well with the multiplex audience. But the film could strike a right chord with others, especially those who would like to watch a cracker of an entertainer this festive season.
