When its all about attracting the audience, after love stories, the second most favourite of Kollywood are cop stories.Director R N R Manohar, who attempted the first in his debut venture Masilamani, has opted for the latter in his second film Vellore Maavattam.
Interestingly, it is not just Manohar who has switched tracks from romance to action, but the main protagonist of his film, Nanda too. After impressing us with soft roles in films such as Punnagai Poove, Kodambakkam and Ananthapurathu Veedu, the actor is here as a tough Cop.
Well, coming to the story, it is about Muthukumar (Nanda), who hails from a remote village and fulfills his father's dream by becoming a police officer. After initial training in Delhi, he gets posting in the district of Vellore.
In the meantime, he falls in love with Priya (Poorna) and marries her. Even as Muthukumar starts his work to make Vellore a heaven of peace, troubles come in the form of Gurumurthy (Azhagamperumal), who has close links with politicos and corrupt police officials.
Nandha is fit and fits well to the role of a police offer. His body language and mannerisms reflect a tough cop well. Poorna is a typical heroine of an action film. Director Azhagamperumal proves himself as an actor while other members of the cast are decent enough.
Cameraman Vettri has captured Vellore district well, while editor Suraj Kavee maintains pace thanks to his scissors. Sundar C Babu's music is peppy.
The film heavily reminds you of the police stories we have watched earlier, making many scenes predictable. A sense of deja vu prevails all over. But for this one thing, Vellore Maavattam is a good attempt.
