Whitney Houston has received touching Twitter tributes on what would have been her 49th birthday.

The late singer passed away in February this year leaving behind her daughter Bobbi Kristina as well as hordes of upset fans.

She would have turned 49 today and many people have posted comments in her honour on the social networking website.

Before her passing she worked on the movie Sparkle alongside Jordin Sparks. The young star was one of many to pay tribute to the star today, posting a picture of them together on Twitter.

"Happy Birthday Whitney! I can't wait 4 everyone to see you #Sparkle on August 17!" Jordin wrote. "I love you & miss you so much (sic)!"

In the film the American Idol winner plays Whitney's character's daughter.

Whitney's real life child Bobbi Kristina also made a touching tribute on Twitter.

"Once it hits 12 am mommy it's your birthday&I am going2celebrate it2thee fullest!" Bobbi wrote. "Bc YOU deserve it damn it, YOU deaerveNothingburtheBEST (sic)!"

Bobbi Kristina has also got a tattoo in her mother's honour. The star and her on/off boyfriend Nick Gordon both had Whitney's initials inked on their wrists.
