Will Osthi hit screens as planned?

6th December 2011

A big guessing game is on whether Silambarasan starrer 'Osthi', which is planned for a December 8 release, will hit the screens as scheduled. While the producers are making all efforts to ensure the release of the movie, theatre owners are up in arms against such a move.

The reason is simple- The satellite rights of 'Osthi' have been sold to Sun TV. Alleging that Sun Pictures, the film production and distribution arm of Sun TV had failed to settle their dues, theatre owners said they would not co-operate to any film whose television rights are sold to Sun TV.

Meanwhile, a statement was issued to the media, saying that all decks were cleared and 'Osthi' will have a release as planned. However, Tamil Nadu Theatre Owners Association general secretary Panneerselvam has claimed it as a false statement.

In the meantime, Simbu's father Vijaya T Rajendhar has requested Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa to intervene in the issue and to ensure that no one resorts to 'kangaroo courts' in the release of films. 'Individuals have no rights to stop the release of any movie,' he said.

It is said that Prashanth starrer 'Mambattiyan' too is facing the same fate.
