A story about love, friendship and responsibilities!!!
'Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani' has been one of the most awaited movies of 2013 as it is Ranbir Kapoor and Deepika Padkone's first film together after their ugly break-up. The last time, Ranbir and Ayan Mukherji had delivered a superhit was 'Wake Up Sid', another reason why their fans were eagerly waiting to watch 'Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani'.
Naina Talwar (Deepika Padukone) is an introvert, a class topper in her clichéd glasses, and she is living her parents' dream of becoming a doctor. Naina narrates her life story which revolves around the four main characters – Bunny, Aditi, Avi and herself. Kabir Thapar aka Bunny (Ranbir Kapoor) is the cool dude, who believes 'flirting is healthy' and wants to lead a commitment-free life. Aditi (Kalki Koechlin) is a 'tomboy', she loves wearing leather jackets and listening to rock music. Avinash aka Avi (Aditya Roy Kapoor) is a spoilt brat, who loves gambling and drinking, but is truly committed to his friendship with Bunny and Aditi.
Life changes for Naina when she takes a trip with the cool gang to Manali; Bunny inspires her to be free-spirited. She eventually falls in love with Bunny while he is busy flirting with Lara (Evelyn Sharma). Bunny heads to the U.S. while Naina moves on with her life, however, destiny makes them meet again as they attend Aditi's wedding. Aditi is in love with Avi, but settles for Taran (Kunaal Roy Kapur) the geeky engineer, who makes her feel happy and secure. Naina and Bunny love each other, but both have different priorities in life; while she wants to get married and have kids, he wants to travel the world.
Music of the movie is marvelous, 'Ghagra' song is a treat for all Madhuri fans, and Farah Khan has choreographed the song beautifully. 'Balam Pichkari' is a fun youthful song, and Deepika grooves with full energy. Ranbir reminds you of the late Shammi Kapoor as he dances like him on the 'Badtameez' track choreographed by Remo D'souza. Ranbir is at his best in 'Dilliwali Girlfriend' as he dances with full energy.
Ranbir has done a good job, but after movies like 'Rockstar' and 'Barfi' the audiences' expectations are soaring high, so his fans may feel a bit disappointed with his overall performance in the movie. Deepika is the soul of the movie, her narration holds the movie together and she has delivered one of her career's best performances. Kalki is awesome in the movie, she is fun as a buddy, and does good in emotional scenes. Aditya Roy Kapur has great comic timing, but post interval he seems to be in a hangover from 'Aashiqui 2'. Kunaal Roy Kapur is the surprise package and he is funny. Farooq Shaikh strikes the right emotional chord as a vulnerable dad. Tanvi Azmi is decent. Evelyn Sharma plays the perfect bimbette.
Young director Ayan Mukherji has done a great job. In the first half he makes the movie really funny; the train scene, the trekking and the market fight scene are outstanding. Ayan takes the movie on a more mature route post interval and that makes the movie a bit slow at times. However, Ayan has managed to extract great performances and at the same time tries to deal with a sensitive story of a boy and a girl, who are quite opposites, but yet fall in love.
Love is in the air after 'Aashiqui 2' and audiences seem to be asking for more romantic movies, so the timing of 'Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani' is perfect. IPL is over and summer vacations are still on, so the movie is bound to pull family crowd.
'Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani' is certainly worth a watch.
