6/64 good films released in Jan-June 2011
11th July 2011
The Kannada film industry was once again flooded with films in the first half of the year 2011. 64 films got released and two films that is 'Olave Mandhara' and 'Sanju Weds Geetha' ran for 100 days. 'Olave Mandhara' did not make money. It was a prestige issue for producer Govindaraju, a Bangalore City Councilor.
Power star Puneeth Rajakumar starring 'Hudugru' is on the way to reach 100 days. 'Kalmanja' of Komalkumar and Kichcha Sudeep's and the Ragini starrer 'Kempe Gowda' was safe, with 50 days at the theatres.
There are films like 'Boss' and 'Prince of Darshan', 'Johny Mere Naam' of Vijay and Ramya's that completed four to six weeks in the theatres and made initial loot in the box office.
There is a drastic drop in the attendance in the theatres for Kannada films. Is it because of the poor quality, audience loss of interest, non Kannada films supremacy, other categories of entertainment at home the people are satisfied – this is a big question doing the rounds with the film pundits.
