9-Year Old Willow Smith Into The Pop Machine Grind

25th October 2010

October 25, 2010 (Sampurn Wire): The internet got jammed as soon as Willow Smiths Whip My Hair made its breakthrough; it became an instant hit and the celeb tweets is just a proof of that. Ranging from Snooki to rehab bound Lindsay Lohan and the socialite Kim Kardashian all are trying to whip their hair. So with this music career launch has Willow Smith become another kid to fall into the pop machine grind?

In an interview carried out by Melissa Block with Jay Smooth, the host of the radio program Underground Railroad and Illdoctrine.coms journalist, both spoke about how appropriate is it for Willow to whip her hair around and be presented with heavy make-up, fake eyelashes and faux mohawk hairstyle.

At one hand it is not difficult to understand the message that Willow wants to give, where one should not be afraid to stand up for oneself and be comfortable about who they are. She very finely explains the names of the dancers that she and mom Jada Pinkett Smith gave Warrirettes. Also as Mr. Smooth explains that the song Whip My Hair has struck a chord with many because Willow is not a 9-year-old wearing hot pants and showing off her dancing skills to a number like Single Ladies.

For a change, parents can let their kids watch the song without worrying about some exposure to sexual content as well as for the colored and the black community the hair is a primary factor. The sing emphasizes that one can be proud of the hair that one has which might not conform to the norms of straight washed out ones.

But while all these are in work, how appropriate will it be to judge Willow as a singer or a dancer with so much editing that has went in the making of the video. This video is once again a processed pop machine where people like Rihanna and Beyonce has been part of, soon they become a commodity too. So how important is the talent of the kid required coupled with the backing she has from her parents?
