Andrew Garfield "always felt he was Peter Parker."
The 28-year-old actor stars in upcoming Marvel movie The Amazing Spider-Man alongside Emma Stone.
Andrew greatly identifies with Spider-Man and the character's daytime identity Peter Parker.
"Since I was three, I've been a big fan of him," he told British newspaper The Mirror.
"He's been my hero. So it's bizarre for me to be finding myself in this position... very surreal. Actually, I always felt I was Peter Parker. Everything apart from his brilliance in science, that is."
Andrew found solace in imagining himself as the superhero when he faced rough times from peers at school.
"I was bullied in my first school between the ages of six and 12," he recalled.
"I didn't really know who I was, like many teenagers. That's why everyone loves this character so much. He's just the most universally normal teenage kid rebelling against his situation."
The Amazing Spider-Man will be released in US theatres July 3.
