(Cover) - EN Showbiz - Ashton Kutcher is reportedly only contracted to appear on Two and a Half Men for a year.
The 33-year-old signed to the popular television comedy series earlier this month and was officially confirmed as a cast member in New York last week. The star takes over from troubled actor Charlie Sheen, who was sacked after making unflattering remarks about those involved with the programme.
It has now been revealed Aston's contract is only for a year. According to The Wall Street Journal, that's partly because of other factors.
"CBS has licensed the show for only an additional year, according to [sources]. If CBS renews the show for a second year, then Warner Bros., a unit of Time Warner Inc., could renew Mr. Kutcher for another season or are free to find another actor. Mr. Kutcher, for his part, could also bow out," the publication reports.
It is claimed network CBS and Warner Bros., which produces the programme, are keen to keep it airing for several years. They apparently have plans for it to continue over the next three years, meaning there will likely be more negotiations in the future.
It's reported Ashton will be paid around $20 million for this season of Two and a Half Men, consisting of around $750,000 per episode plus extras.
Charlie was said to receive $2 million per episode when he was involved with the programme.
Ashton's representative has commented on the report. (C) Cover Media
