Big Cinemas now in Gopalan Mall custody
10th May 2011
Big Cinemas Multiplex has finally succumbed to the stern and biased behavior of the Kannada Film Industry. The Cinemas that had three screens and a seating capacity of 700 had earlier faced trouble from the Kannada cinema industry. The producers and distributors were unofficially prohibited from providing their films to Big Cinemas. In spite of the continuous prohibition, many of the Kannada film makers dared to challenge the orders and continued to supply their films.
Even with minimal support, Reliance-owned Big Cinemas had been sold to Gopalan Arch Mall, where the multiplex is situated. According to sources the deal has been inked at the amount of Rs.8.5 crores.
The exit of Big Cinemas has obviously surprised many Kannada cinema industry personalities. The emerging market in and around Rajarajeswarinagar, on Mysore Road, will be a boon to Gopalan Cinema Brand.
