Philip Andre Mickey Rourke, popularly known as Mickey Rourke, was born in Schenectady, New York on the 16th September 1952. Just like his father who was a boxer, even Mickey Rourke turned his attention towards sports and Boxing interested him the most.

His first stint with acting was in a School play but that didn't interest him much. While he had taken a break in his boxing career, his friend asked him to audtion for a role in the play 'Deathwatch', after which he was so mesmerised with acting that he even took up private acting lessons on borrowed money.

Rourke made his debut with a small role in Steven Spielberg's film '1941'. But he was actually noticed and appreciated for his role in 'Body Heat'. Hereafter, there was no looking back. Mickey Rourke soon earned many important roles in movies like 'Diner', 'Rumble Fish', 'Barfly', etc... He was already a bad guy but his role in '9 1/2 Weeks' earned him the image of "sex-symbol". But all this success couldn't bind him to the movies. He decided to go back to boxing in the 1991. After a brief stint with boxing, he returned back to the screen. In 2001, he appeared in the music video "Hero" with Enrique Iglesias. But his true comeback was in 2005, with "Sin City". 

Throughout his career, Rourke has won many awards and accolades. In the 2008 film 'The Wrestler', Rourke portrayed a past-his-prime wrestler, and garnered a 2009 Golden Globe award, a BAFTA award, and a nomination for an Academy Award.

Although his personal life was always in a turmoil, he  has made a successful career out of both boxing and acting.
