Colin Firth: Ageing has won me roles

10th January 2011

(Cover) - EN Showbiz - Colin Firth is getting more film parts now he is 50 years old.

The British star has no problem with the ageing process as he thinks its allowing him the opportunity to play more interesting movie roles.

The veteran actor is tipped to win an Oscar for his latest performance as Britains King George VI in the movie The Kings Speech. The film tracks the Kings struggle to overcome a stammer in order to give riling public speeches, and its the kind of part Colin is thrilled to be winning.

Im getting these opportunities because of the age I am and that makes me feel a lot better about the physical deterioration Im experiencing! he said.

Instead of playing young bachelor roles such as his stint as Mr Darcy in the BBC adaptation of Pride and Prejudice, Colin can now play characters who have a marked history, which makes his job more stimulating.

He enjoys imagining what the people he has portrayed have been through, and delving into their past to bring drama to the roles.

I find that the work Im getting involved in now is far more interesting than its ever been because Im old enough to play people who have a real past, Colin told Saga magazine. That puts you in a very interesting place as an actor. (C) Cover Media
