Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes settled their divorce so quickly for the sake of their daughter, it has been reported.
According to sources, "conversations" about the estranged couple's six-year-old child Suri and her wellbeing made both parties realise they had to resolve the situation as quickly and smoothly as possible.
Katie's attorney Jonathan Wolfe announced a settlement detailing custodial rights had been reached yesterday, less than two weeks after the actress filed to end the marriage.
"Our sources say... a week ago Thursday, after Katie filed, the hostility between the two was palpable and Suri became a weapon," TMZ reports.
"We're told what turned everything around was a series of conversations that Suri would be irreparably damaged by parental warfare. It registered big time with both Tom and Katie, and it allowed their lawyers to strike a deal in what could be record time for this type of divorce."
The former Dawson's Creek star has reportedly won primary care of Suri, with "generous" visitation rights being granted to Tom.
The settlement is said to contain stringent rules on how the child will be raised and what religious beliefs she will be exposed to. Tom's Scientology religion is widely rumoured to have been one of the reasons the former couple's relationship broke down.
The agreement has enabled the A-List marriage to be dissolved without an acrimonious court battle and both parties stated previously that they are willing to co-operate for Suri's sake.
"We are committed to working together as parents to accomplish what is in our daughter Suri's best interests," a statement from both of their representatives read. "We want to keep matters affecting our family private and express our respect for each other's commitment to each of our respective beliefs and support each other's roles as parents."
