Dick Clark dead at 82

18th April 2012

Dick Clark has passed away at the age of 82.

The New Year's Rockin' Eve host suffered a "massive" heart attack following an outpatient procedure at St. John's hospital in Los Angeles last night.

"Attempts to resuscitate him were unsuccessful," his agent Paul Shefrin confirmed.

The famed television producer has been in ill health for some time after being the victim of a stroke eight years ago.

Ryan Seacrest took over from the prestigious New Year's Eve show in 2005 but Dick appeared alongside him - his last appearance being last year.

Dick's breakout opportunity was hosting Bob Horn's Bandstand back in 1956. He hosted and produced American Bandstand up until 1989 and also appeared on screen at the helm of game shows like Pyramid, The Challengers and Scattergories.

He received five Emmy Awards during his illustrious career and a Peabody Award.

"Dick is survived by his wife Kari and his three children, RAC, Duane and Cindy," Paul added.
