The 65-year-old iconic singer who is famed for her successful country career loves penning stories about her home life growing up.

The blonde star was the fourth of twelve siblings, and has previously described her family as dirt poor.

Dolly has revealed that she will never forget her familys humble roots and strives to keep that spirit alive throughout her career, including singing her favourite song, Coat of Many Colors.

That little girl is still here, that little girl keeps me sane. People say, Dont you get tired talking about your family? Dont you get tired about being poor? No I dont. That is my memory, that is what made me who and what I am, she said in an interview with a British television show. Like my favourite song is Coat of Many Colors, which is a true story because it was a coat my mom made. To this day its my favourite because it talks about a lot of stuff, the love of family and that you dont need money to be rich. You can be rich in understanding and love and caring.

Dolly says that the memories of her early life keep her grounded in an otherwise crazy world. The singer known for her distinctive soprano voice says that she tries to keep the memory of her mom and dad alive, even though they have passed away.

So I love writing about that and I go home always in my mind, no matter where I am in the world, I anchor myself and I can go back to my Tennessee mountain home and I can be with momma and daddy even though they are passed on now, she explained. I can be with my brothers and sisters when we were little and it is restoring and it helps me. It keeps me sane in this crazy world. (C) Cover Media
