Emily Watson: Im not ambitious

25th March 2011

(Cover) - EN Showbiz - Emily Watson would give up acting tomorrow if she could.

The 44-year-old star made her debut in Oscar-nominated film Breaking the Waves in 1996. She is currently starring in drama Oranges and Sunshine, where she portrays social worker Margaret Humphreys who uncovers the childcare scandal of forcibly relocating poor children to Australia and Canada.

Despite her successful screen and theatre career, the British star would give it up in an instant if it meant she could spend more time with her family. Emily married her husband Jack Waters in 1995 after they met at the Royal Shakespeare Company. The pair have two young children, Juliet, five, and two-year-old Dylan.

"I don't feel ambitious anymore. I really don't! It's such a pleasure going to work, and I love my job, but if I had to give it up tomorrow, I would, she told British newspaper The Independent. But actually I can't because I'm the breadwinner and I have to keep going. So I won't. I have to find a way of making it all work and putting it all together."

The actress is notoriously private and prefers to keep red-carpet events to a minimum. Emily feels well known enough not to grace Hollywood on a regular basis.

"I feel I'm established enough there to be remembered," she said. "I work enough to keep a little flicker of, 'Oh yeah, I remember her.' I think if I wanted a big American career, I'd need to be over there and put myself about a lot more than I do." (C) Cover Media
