Gemma Arterton: I want an exciting career

6th September 2010

(Cover) - EN Showbiz - Gemma Arterton doesn’t want to get “trapped” in her career.

The actress shot to fame playing Strawberry Fields in 2008 Bond movie Quantum of Solace. Since then Gemma has starred in a range of movies from office blockbusters such as Clash of the Titans and Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time, to smaller films like The Disappearance of Alice Creed.

She can next be seen in dark British romantic comedy Tamara Drewe, in which she plays the title role. Gemma loves to shock audiences by choosing different roles and hopes she never becomes typecast.

“That’s what excites me with my profession – you can do so many things, you don’t want to get trapped doing the same thing,” Gemma explained. “I did make sure I was looking for roles in things like Tamara Drewe or The Disappearance of Alice Creed or doing a play just to keep it exciting for me and challenging people’s perceptions of what you can do as an actor.”

Gemma also went on to discuss making a sequel to Clash of the Titans alongside Sam Worthington. The 24-year-old star has revealed she is interested in reprising her role as spiritual guide Io. She admits she still can’t believe she has appeared in so many successful movies and used to worry she would never land any roles.

“I think there will be more, I am in talks to be in the second one, so I think it’s happening next year,” Gemma revealed on a British television show. “And there are lots of other films that I am really excited about, they are smaller and more down my street, I suppose in terms of what I want to do. They are happening next year and it’s all starting to happen the way I wanted it to now.

“I never thought I would be in that situation, I never thought I would work! So it’s incredible.” (C) Cover Media
