George Clooney wants to "kick the hell" out of The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Part 1.

The Hollywood star's new movie The Descendants is opening in America this weekend, at the same time as the highly-anticipated penultimate instalment of the vampire franchise.

George has joked that he has what it takes to better his competition, including Twilight star Robert Pattinson.

"There's a lot of talk that we're going to beat them," he told E! Online at The Descendants premiere this week.

"We are going against Breaking Dawn, but the big headlines come Monday morning will be, Descendants Kicks the Hell Out of Breaking Dawn.'"

The reporter joked the headline should be 'George Clooney Kicks the Hell Out of Robert Pattinson,' before George added: "Oh, I hope so."

In The Descendants, George plays a land baron trying to reconnect with his two daughters after his wife is involved in a boating accident.

The film also stars Shailene Woodley, and is already been tipped as an Oscar prospect.

George rubbishes such buzz surrounding awards.

"You just want to make movies that you like, honestly," he said.

"Does anyone really remember who won three years ago? You really don't. But I remember All the President's Men and I remember Network and I remember Taxi Driver. I pay attention to the stuff I really love, which is making films. The rest of it, I don't worry about so much.
