(Cover) - EN Showbiz - Gerard Way has revealed he will channel Freddie Mercury at his upcoming summer gigs.

The 33-year-old is lead vocalist in American rock band My Chemical Romance, which also comprises guitarists Ray Toro and Frank Iero and bassist Mikey Way.

The group have recently been confirmed to headline this years British Reading and Leeds music festivals along with Muse, The Strokes and Pulp.

The rocker has revealed that the band hope to create a spectacular production for their highly-anticipated shows. Gerard says he will make the gig special by taking inspiration from music legend Freddie.

I plan to channel as much of him as possible. Were going to try to bring as much production as possible. Its not just going to be us and some lights. I think were really going to try and do something special, he told NME magazine.

Gerard says that the headline gig is a childhood dream come true for the band. After being bombarded with bottles by the crowd at Reading festival in 2006, the singer vowed that he wouldnt return unless he was headlining.

Huge, huge f**king honour. A childhood dream, he gushed. It was a bit negative and combative and then it turned into something magical. I remember talking to Mikey [Way] at the end of that show and saying, in a positive way, I never want to play this again unless were headlining it. (C) Cover Media
