Geri Halliwell wants Olympic performance

27th April 2011

(Cover) - EN Showbiz - Geri Halliwell wants the Spice Girls to reunite and perform at the London 2012 Olympic Games.

The singer would love to team up with her former bandmates Victoria Beckham, Mel B, Emma Bunton and Mel C and belt out a medley of hits at the opening ceremony for the prestigious sporting event next year. Geri thinks the Spice Girls would be the perfect act to warm up the crowd in the British city and kick off the Olympic Games in style.

The Spice Girls are part of me and always will be. If it happened and felt natural and right, then Im always open to singing with the other girls, Geri is quoted as saying by British newspaper The Daily Mirror. Singing at the Games is a great idea and would be an amazing opportunity and its a sign the Brits are back. This is our time. Everything is circular and now theres a British pop revival.

Geri would consider reforming the group just for one performance and then agree to go their separate ways. She believes that by performing their back catalogue it would show the world how strong pop music is in the UK.

It needs to put itself back on the map on a world stage, she added. This is our opportunity to show that British music, which has led and dominated the world, should do, always.

Geri isnt the only member of the band who has expressed an interest in performing at the opening ceremony next year.

Mel C is a huge sports fan and cant wait for the Olympic Games to come to the UK. She previously revealed she thinks it would be the perfect occasion for the group to appear together on stage again.

Officially we dont know anything yet but I think its a brilliant idea, she said last year. It would be wonderful for all five of us to appear and Im sure all the girls would be up for it. Lets petition for this and make it happen. (C) Cover Media
