Goldie Hawn never craved fame

29th February 2012

Goldie Hawn started having panic attacks when she realised she was going to be famous.

The 66-year-old star's first love was dancing. She grew up learning the discipline and even taught young children when she was a teenager.

She always thought that was where her future lay, so when her career started going in a different direction she found it overwhelming.

"When I was 22, I went through a period of uncertainty about my life. I was picked out the chorus line and put into a TV show [Good Morning, World, 1967]. I was away from my parents and having panic attacks," she recalled. "People said, You're out of your mind, you're going to be a star.' I never wanted to be a star, I just wanted to be a dancer and be happy."

Goldie has written a book called 10 Mindful Minutes, which offers tips on helping children deal with stress.

The star explaining penning the tome seemed natural to her after she wrote her autobiography. That doesn't mean she is giving up on acting though.

"It's my natural instinct to be creative no matter what I do. In acting, producing or in creating a curriculum for children; I can't really choose a favourite," she told Stylist magazine. "Some people like to be told what to do and others are extremely creative and whatever they do they'll put that nature into it. Creativity is inside of me. I can't help putting it into everything I do."

Goldie was also quizzed about the reported plan to remake her 1987 movie Overboard. There is speculation Jennifer Lopez and Will Smith might star in the picture, which is about a rich woman who suffers from amnesia.

Goldie has mixed feelings about the plan.

"There are so many remakes today I often wonder why they're not thinking of new ideas," she said. "One thing I would say is that the film is relatively iconic; they still show it on TV. I mean, I can't believe how often they show that movie."
