Happy Birthday Subhash Ghai

Subhash Ghai is one of the most renowned names amongst Indians and South Asians for his excellent record as an Indian filmmaker in mainstream cinema for the last 26 years. Mr. Ghai, who is the MD and chairman of Mukta Arts, the first corporate film company in Mumbai film industry, turns 68 today.

The 'showman' of Hindi cinema has delivered many epic films to the industry that portray grandeur and very rich themes. Subhash Ghai has not only directed some National award winning films like 'Pardes', 'Saudagar', 'Khalnayak', etc., but has also given the industry many new talents by launching them in his movies. He has introduced young talents and groomed them into stars like Madhuri Dixit, Javed Jaffrey, Jackie Shroff, Mahima Chaudhry, Manisha Koirala and many more.

Ghai is also the chairman and founder of Whistling Woods International, Asia's largest institute for film, television, animation and media arts. He has been overseeing the setup, academic staffing, smooth functioning of the first-ever privately setup world-class media institute in India and ensuring imparting of quality education to the next generation of filmmakers.

Subhash Ghai has immensely contributed to the Hindi film industry in all ways possible and still continues to do the same. In his upcoming flick 'Kaanchi', he is all set to introduce a new young girl from a remote village in Punjab.

Ghai started his career in this industry as an actor with small roles in films like 'Taqdeer', 'Aradhna' and 'Umang' which did not perform well at the box office. Then he began his second innings in the industry as a director with his debut film 'Kalicharan' which was one of the biggest hits of his time.

He has also been awarded the National award as producer for the film 'Iqbal' which won the Best Film on social issues. Subhash was further selected as the final round jury member for the International Emmy Awards 2007.

He is married to Mukta Ghai after whom he named his company Mukta Arts. He has two daughters, the elder daughter Meghna looks after his dream project that is Whistling Woods Films Institute.

Having started his career back in 1970, director, screen writer, actor, and producer Subhash Ghai still plays a major role in the film industry.

We wish one of the legends of Bollywood a very Happy Birthday and pray that he contributes more and gives us many new young talents in the near furture.
