Hayley Atwell: Characters must be rounded

(Cover) - EN Movies - Hayley Atwell "can't imagine" portraying a two-dimensional character.

The British actress appears opposite Chris Evans in upcoming picture Captain America: The First Avenger, which was directed by Joe Johnston.

Hayley was thrilled when she initially heard of Joe's plans for her character Peggy Carter, appreciating the realistic elements of her movie alter ego's relationship with the title character, played by Chris.

"Joe said he wanted this romance to be rooted in something real. He wanted it to be concrete so it's three dimensional as opposed to a caricature," she told Collider.

"I reacted really well to that because I can't imagine not wanting to invest something grounding and real into characters I play, otherwise I don't think I'd really be in it."

The star added that she appreciated Joe's respectful attitude to romantic scenes. The actress dislikes flaunting her body gratuitously, and was relieved there were no such scenes in the picture.

"I loved the innocence of it, hopefully there's chemistry. They are kindred spirits," she gushed. "There wasn't any gratuitous or token sex scene. That makes it more romantic and more old fashioned, of the time." (C) Cover Media
