Heather Locklear reportedly entered a rehab centre after her split from actor Jack Wagner.

A source claims that the actress has been battling an alcohol problem for many years and quietly sought help following the couple's break-up last year.

The 50-year-old Melrose Place actress was recently hospitalised after reportedly mixing alcohol with prescription medication.

According to the insider, her 52-year-old partner had "begged her to go to rehab," but Heather didn't take action until after their split when she "entered a treatment program, which her family was able to keep quiet," American publication US Weekly reports.

The source claims the star's drinking has been an issue for some time and got even worse since her engagement fell apart.

Heather has suffered personal problems in the past. In 2008 it was claimed she'd tried to commit suicide, although the allegation was later denied. She was helped for anxiety and depression issues later that year.

"Heather has been out of control for many years," the source claimed. "Her drinking has caused her to fall out of many friendships. She doesn't get out of bed most days. Jack kept her on the straight and narrow, but he couldn't keep Heather sober."

Following her recent hospitalisation the star is said to be "weighing her options" on whether to check into rehab.

Her family is concerned and reportedly want Heather to get professional help.
