R B Choudary's Super Good Films Private Limited has been ordered by the Madras High Court to pay Rs 5 lakh in damages to Godrej Sara Lee Limited, the manufacturer of mosquito and cockroach repellent 'Hit', for showing the product in a bad light.

A petition was filed by the company (Godrej Sara Lee Ltd) stating that the product had been depicted in a disparaging manner in the film directed by Perarasu, which was released in 2005.

Passing orders, Justice S Palanivelu said, 'It is stated that after the interim injunction (by High Court), in certain parts of the state, in certain cinema theatres, the relevant scenes were masked but in most of the theatres, it could not be done.'

The Judge added: 'It shows that even after the filing of the suit, the plaintiff has suffered loss of reputation to some extent.' In view of this matter, the court observed that damages of Rs 5 lakh be awarded to the plaintiff.
