James Cameron pays tribute to flood victims

(Cover) - EN Showbiz - James Camerons heart has gone out to the victims of the Australian floods.

The 56-year-old moviemaker is currently in the country promoting his latest film Sanctum 3D for which he was an executive producer.

The film tells the tale of a group of cave divers who end up trapped following a torrential downpour, and the devastating effects recent floods have had in the Australian state of Queensland have made him feel all the more poignantly about the power of water.

The floods have caused thousands of homes to either be partially or totally flooded, people are going missing, and there have even been deaths.

"I think that gives us collectively a great respect for what people are up against in Queensland and, of course, our hearts go out to people who are losing their homes, James told AAP. "The scope and scale of it is really horrific.

James has plenty of experience in movies dealing with the dangers of water most famously the 1997 blockbuster Titanic, a fictional love story set during the famous sinking of the ship RMS Titanic in 1912. The star has also made documentaries about ocean exploration, and he feels many people cant fathom just how dangerous water can be.

"People always underestimate the power of water. Water can crush you," he said.

"Whether you spend a lot of time in the water, or underwater, as we have in the ocean, or indeed made films when you have to move large amounts of water around, people always consistently underestimate the power of it. (C) Cover Media
