(Cover) - EN Showbiz - James Franco would have no problem admitting he was gay if he was.
The 32-year-old actor has made a name for himself playing homosexual characters, most recently portraying iconic gay poet Allen Ginsberg in new film Howl. James choice of characters has led many to suspect he is gay himself, but the star has always insisted he is interested in women.
He insists he would definitely tell people if he was gay, and wouldnt be afraid the admission would damage his career.
Sure, Id tell you if I was, James told the current issue of The Advocate magazine when a reporter asked if he would spill the beans if he was gay. I guess the reason I wouldnt is because Id be worried that it would hurt my career.
I suppose thats the reason one wouldnt do that, right? But no, that wouldnt be something that would deter me. Im going to do projects that I want to do.
James knows his film choices lead to people assuming lot of things about him, most commonly that he is gay and has a penchant for smoking marijuana. He says neither are true, but he will continue to make movies that portray drug use and homosexuality because he finds them more interesting than mainstream movies.
Everyone thinks Im a stoner, and some people think Im gay because Ive played these gay roles. Thats what people think, but its not true. I dont smoke pot. Im not gay, James told the publication.
In this history of cinema, there are so many heterosexual love stories. Its so hammered, so done. Its just not that interesting to me. Its more interesting to me to play roles and relationships that havent been portrayed as often. (C) Cover Media
