Katherine Jenkins has revealed she is "beyond broken hearted" after splitting from her fianc.

The Welsh classical singer says she and television presenter Gethin Jones mutually decided to end their four-year relationship.

The pair confirmed the break-up on their personal Twitter pages earlier today.

"Sorry for being quiet of late, its just that I have some very sad news. Geth & I have decided to go our separate ways. We are both beyond broken hearted. All your hugs & support will be much appreciated xxx" Katherine wrote, before Gethin added his own message to fans.

"Hi everybody. I'm deeply sad to tell you that Kath and I have ended our relationship as a couple. We are both heart broken... Gx" he said.

Katherine and Gethin met in 2007 on the set of popular UK TV show Strictly Come Dancing.

Gethin had been a contestant in the show, while Katherine was a guest performer.

The seemingly-solid couple announced their engagement in February this year after Gethin proposed in Mexico in January.

Just a few weeks ago, Katherine had discussed starting a family with her beau.

"I'd like to have a family of my own - slip away for a bit and do nothing but spend those early years with my children," she said in a recent interview.

"I'd like to think I can come back, but I believe children are a gift and I want to enjoy them some time in the next few years. Gethin does too."
