Kazhugu's is a high flight...

In 1981, a film titled Kazhugu, starring Rajinikanth in the lead role, hit the screens. Now, after more than three decades, a movie under the same title is out for Tamil audience.Hold on! But for the title, there are no other similarities between the two flicks. If the former was a commercial cocktail, the latter is a realistic film throwing light on some unsung heroes.

Bindu Madhavi in KazhuguActor Krishna finally strikes a big chord with this film. After two mediocre outings (Alibaba and Katradhu Kalavu), he has made a smart move by totally dedicating himself to the script by debutant director Sathya Siva.

The real hero of Kazhugu is its script and narration by Sathya Siva. But it is possible only because of a wonderful performance from Krishna and Bindu Madhavi, the lead actors. They have delivered impeccable acts in each and every scene.

Chera (Krishna), along with his friends Nandu (Karunas) and Shanmugham (Thambi Ramaiah), is involved in the job of lifting the bodies of those who jumped to death from Kodaikanal hills. Chera comes across Kavitha (Bindu Madhavi) when he helps her family when her sister commits suicide, after a failed love affair. Both fall in love with each other slowly.

When Chera and Kavitha try to settle in life with the help of Nandu and Shanmugam, enters Ayya (Jayaprakash). His entry brings some big troubles. What's next is the crux of Kazhugu.

Binda Madhavi and Krishna Sekhar in KazhuguWhat really impresses in the film is how Satya intricately tries to portray the hidden message. Thambi Ramaiah, the National Award winning actor, delivers a credible performance. Equally good are the likes of Karunas, Jayaprakash and Sujibala.

Yuvan Shankar Raja's music gives that chilling effect of Kodaikanal, while Satya's lens takes us to unseen locales in a thrilling and gripping manner.

A lengthy second half mars the flow of the script to an extent. However, director Satya Siva and Krisha emerge triumphant at the end, as their Kazhugu is a welcome addition to the list of 'different movies' in Kollywood.
