3rd November 2010

(Cover) - EN Showbiz - Kiefer Sutherland is to make his Broadway debut, starring in drama That Championship Season.

The 43-year-old actor will appear alongside Sex and the City star Chris Noth in the New York production, which is a revival of Jason Millers 1972 play. Jason Patric, Brian Cox and Jim Gaffigan will also appear in the show, which will be directed by Gregory Mosher.

That Championship Season tells the story of four former American college students. The group are reunited with their basketball coach 20 years after winning the state championship and reminisce about their younger years. Even though they have remained friends, none of them have achieved what they wanted to in life and still look to their coach for guidance.

It has been reported Kiefer will play James Daley a local junior high school principal, while Jason will play James brother Tom Daley, who is described as an unsuccessful, cynical alcoholic.

Chris is rumoured to have landed the role of Phil Romano a millionaire who appears to be having an affair with the wife of one of his friends.

When the show first opened on Broadway in the 1970s, it won a Pulitzer Prize for drama and a Tony Award for best play.

It is not yet known where the production will be staged, but it is believed it will open in March 2011. (C) Cover Media
