No film shows, no shootings. The whole of Tamil film industry will be on a strike for opposing the Central government's decision to impose service tax on the entertainment industry.

The strike call has been given by the Film Federation of India, the apex body of cinema associations and exhibitors across the country. The association has demanded withdrawal of the said 10.3 per cent tax stating that it would tax the 'patrons' who are already paying the entertainment tax.

On Tuesday, a joint meeting of important bodies in Kollywood, including Tamil Film Producers Council, Film Chamber, Directors Association, Actors Association, Theatre owners Association and Film Employees Federation of South India, took place in Chennai.

It was decided at the meeting to extend support to the one day all India strike on 23rd February, to protest against the Union government's decision to impose service tax on entertainment industry.

Talking to media persons later, South India Film Artistes Association president R Sarthkumar said, 'The Central government's move will affect the film industry a lot. We want the tax to be rolled back."
