(Cover) - EN Showbiz - Lauren Conrad and Derek Hough have reportedly split.

The couple have been casually dating for the last three months. They are now said to have realised the romance wasn't serious and they are better as friends.

"Their relationship reached its peak," a friend of Lauren's told Life & Style. "It was always casual."

Another source insisted The Hills star Lauren hasn't been left heartbroken by the break-up. She enjoyed spending time with Derek, but feels ready to move on.

"She had fun with Derek - he used to send her cute texts and sing to her - but she always kept her options open," the insider explained.

Professional dancer Derek is said to be just as philosophical about the romance. Although he had feelings for Lauren, 25, he also reportedly doubted there was any future in the relationship.

Lauren broke up with her partner of three years Kyle Howard earlier this year, while Derek, 26, was recently linked to Cheryl Cole. (C) Cover Media
