Lindsay Lohan assault case dropped

(Cover) - EN Showbiz - Police have dropped charges against a man accused of assaulting Lindsay Lohan.

The actress alleged a man identified as Christian LaBella attacked her in her Manhattan hotel room early on Sunday morning. It was claimed they began to fight after she discovered he had taken photos of her on his cell phone.

A scuffle broke out, with Lindsay alleging he tried to choke her. Police apprehended Christian and initially charged him with misdemeanour assault and harassment.

A New York Police Department (NYPD) official has confirmed they have been dropped, with the pair now filing rival harassment claims.

"Cross complaints for harassment were filed and LaBella's assault arrest was voided after detectives investigated further," CNN reports NYPD Deputy Commissioner Paul Browne said.

Police have decided there is not enough evidence to go ahead with the initial charges.

Lindsay was reportedly scratched in the incident, but her spokesman Steve Honig has said she did not go to hospital.

She apparently met Christian in a New York City nightclub, then brought him back to her hotel room to party with a group of friends.

Lindsay's mother Dina Lohan has spoken of her relief that her daughter is well.

"I am relieved to have my daughter safely at home with me," she told ET. "She is understandably rattled and quite shaken by what she experienced early this morning. I believe the authorities have the suspect in custody and I have complete faith they will bring this criminal matter to its rightful conclusion." (C) Cover Media
