Lindsay Lohan released on bail

23rd April 2011

(Cover) - EN Showbiz - Lindsay Lohan has been released on bail after a judge sentenced her to 120 days in jail and 480 hours of community service for violating her probation.

The 24-year-old was charged with felony grand theft after she took a $2,500 necklace from a jewellery store in Venice, California.

Los Angeles Superior Court judge Stephanie Sautner reduced the charge to a misdemeanor at the hearing, but said she thought the actress had intentionally taken the designer piece and made a bad decision in not returning it until police got involved.

I see the intent here, Judge Sautner said. I see a level of brazenness with, Let me see what I can get away with here'.

Lindsays lawyer Shawn Holley filed a notice of appeal before the court closed, enabling the troubled star to be released on bail.

The actress was held in custody for five hours at Lynwood Correctional Facility before a $75,000 bail was posted. She has reportedly returned to her Venice Beach home.

This is the fourth time that Lindsay has been sent to jail. Two of her previous sentences were cut down to only a few hours and last summer she spent 14 days behind bars despite a 90 day ruling because of prison overcrowding.

Deputy District Attorney Danette Meyers is belived to be making an appeal against yesterdays ruling because she feels that Lindsay got off too lightly.

"I'm not happy with the amount of time. She was previously sentenced to 90 days in jail and she continues to violate the law, she told press outside the courthouse.

"This is not a first time offender. I respectfully disagree with the court's decision to lower the charge from a felony to a misdemeanor." (C) Cover Media
