Mani Ratnam's accidental entry into cinema

30th October 2012

Mani Ratnam has described his entry into cinema as an accident. The ace director, who is gearing up for the release of his next venture 'Kadali' ('Kadal' in Tamil), has said this in a new book.

"It was an accident. I was interested in cinema only as a viewer. I never thought I'd take it up as a career. I never thought I would sit and write and actually direct films", Mani Ratnam said this in a book titled 'Conversations with Mani Ratnam'.

The book is based on the director's freewheeling chats with National Award winning film critic Baradwaj Rangan. It has been published by Penguin.

"Even now I feel that if there were enough good Tamil films made, I wouldn't become a filmmaker", Ratnam added further.
