Michael Jackson jury selection begins

8th September 2011

(Cover) - EN Showbiz - Jury selection for the Michael Jackson involuntary manslaughter trial will start today.

The King of Pop died of acute Propofol intoxication in June 2009. His personal physician Dr. Conrad Murray has been charged with his involuntary manslaughter, which he denies.

Murray is standing trial, but selection of the jury members was delayed earlier this year so his team could finish preparing.

It is due to start in Los Angeles later today. It's thought 160 people are possible candidates, although they haven't all been placed into seclusion while the process takes place.

Each person will receive a 30 page questionnaire. They will be quizzed on what they know about the case, and how they feel about Jackson and Murray.

The prosecution and defence will then have time to look over the papers. They will begin questioning the candidates on September 23.

It's thought some of Jackson's family will be in court when the process begins later today.

Propofol is an anaesthetic used to put surgery patients to sleep and it's been claimed Jackson used it as he was an insomniac. Murray is accused of injecting the singer with the drug, while his legal team insist Jackson administered it to himself.

If the medical professional is found guilty he could be jailed for four years and will have his medical license removed. (C) Cover Media
