Mickey Rourke careful with his cash

13th August 2010

(Cover) - EN Showbiz - Mickey Rourke is petrified of losing his money, says his co-star.

The actor made his name in the 80s, and is famous for living a lavish lifestyle. He splashed his cash on wild nights out and showered his friends and family with expensive presents, as well as buying motorbikes and cars for himself.

When his work dried up, Mickey had no money, but after reigniting his career by portraying Randy ‘The Ram’ Robinson in 2008 movie The Wrestler he became solvent again.

Mickey can be seen in new movie The Expendables, which was written and directed by Sylvester Stallone. He also stars in it, along with Jet Li, Bruce Willis, Dolph Lundgren, Arnold Schwarzenegger and Jason Stratham. Jason has revealed Mickey’s past financial problems have made him more frugal.

“I wouldn’t say Mickey is tight but when he takes a jacket to the dry cleaners he sticks a pair of socks in the inside pocket,” he told British newspaper The Daily Express. “It’s hard to get him to part with a dollar.”

Mickey has been open about his past cash flow problems, admitting he was once worried he wouldn’t be able to pay his rent. Sylvester was one of the people who helped him turn his life around, by offering him a part in 2000’s Get Carter.

“I was paying $500 (£320) a month for a one-room apartment with a yard for my dogs. I had a Mini Cooper and couldn’t even afford to fill it up. A friend used to give me a couple of hundred dollars a month just to feed myself,” Mickey has said.

“Sylvester gave me a couple of weeks work on Get Carter and that paid my rent for eight months.” (C) Cover Media
