M.V.Gopal Ram takes home an 'Award'

M.V.Gopal Ram, the famous writer, director and producer was conferred with the ‘Dadasaheb Phalke Academy Award’ in Mumbai for his contribution in the film industry. 

"I started my career as an assistant to director Richard Attenborough in the internationally acclaimed film Gandhi and worked with James Ivory in the film Heat and Dust.  I was very lucky to have been associated with great directors like K.S.Sethumadhavan, K.Bappiah, K.Muralimohan Rao, K.Rajasekharan and B.Gopal," he said on recieving the award.

"Thereafter I independently directed the film Bobbie in Tamil, Anokha Prem, Yudh and Diwana Tere Pyar Ka in Hindi" he added.

As a writer Gopal Ram has penned dialogues for ‘n’ number of movies, which include hits from all languages. He wrote the dialogues for Ram Gopal Verma’s 'Kshana Kshanam' in Telugu, and also for 100s of Hindi movies including 'Aparachit', 'Sabse Badaa Mawaali', and 'Mumbai Police'

Dialogues for a number of dubbed versions of Hollywood films like 'Armour of God', 'Police Story', 'Deep Rising', and Jackie Chan’s 100th film '1911' are also credited to his name. 

Looking back at his career, he said "I cannot forget the film Periyaar for which I wrote dialogues for the Hindi version from Tamil and also the film I am Kalam from Hindi to Telugu. I am now working on films such as Great Gambler, Veera in Hindi, Kaadal Kondattam, Yematram in Tamil and Prema Jalsa Mausam in Telugu."

In 25 years of his career Gopal Ram has also produced a number of films. With 112 movies credited to his name M.V.Gopal Ram is indeed an icon.
