Nicollette Sheridan's trial against Desperate Housewives creator Marc Cherry and the ABC network begins today.

The actress had filed a lawsuit against her former employers back in April 2010 claiming that she was wrongfully terminated and claimed assault and battery and gender violence.

She also alleged "intentional infliction of emotional distress" saying they let her go from the hit series after she complained about Marc's "demeaning" and "unprofessional" attitude towards her.

Although she later dropped many of the violence charges, she has continued to pursue the wrongful termination lawsuit saying there was more to her being fired than was claimed.

Nicollette played Edie Britt until the fifth season of the show, set on Wisteria Lane, when she was killed off.

Marc maintains that he had already planned to kill off Nicollette's character to save money in the show's budget before the alleged incident occurred.

Jury selection begins today and Nicollette is hoping for a multi-million dollar settlement, the Hollywood Reporter claims.

But the judge has already told her that she would only be eligible to get up to $4 million which is about a year's salary for her rather, than for the remaining three seasons she was claiming for. The show will end after the eighth season this year.

While Nicollette is expected to call some of the studio's top executives, Marc's legal team will reportedly call co-stars Teri Hatcher, Felicity Huffman, Eva Longoria and Marcia Cross to the stand.

"Death is as much a part of scripted television as it is a part of life," ABC had said about Nicollette's termination. "Of course, whenever a character dies, an actor loses a job. That is what happened here."
