Noel Gallagher: Being single made me successful

15th January 2011

(Cover) - EN Showbiz - Noel Gallagher believes writing about being young and single cemented his success.

The 43-year-old guitarist has secured his place in music folklore following his 18-year stint in British rock band Oasis, alongside his brother Liam. With the 1994 release of their classic debut album, Definitely Maybe, the band attracted fans all over the world. Noel believes it was the song topics which helped the album connect with a large audience.

We had our ups and downs, but I was in that period of my life when everything I wrote was great. People were saying, Are you mad putting that on the B-side? I was in a purple patch. I was writing about being young and single, and who wouldnt want to listen to that, he told Q magazine.

The star admits his song writing has failed to recapture the heights of his first offering, which at the time became the fastest selling debut album in the UK. Noel believes this was the only time he could compare his songs to The Beatles who he holds as the standard bearer for the industry.

With every song that I write, I compare it to The Beatles. Ive got semi-close once or twice, with Live Forever, for example... the solo on that is one of the greatest things in rock music, he added. (C) Cover Media
