11th May 2011
Following the grand success of 'Vinnaithaandi Varuvaaya' and 'Vaanam', the young superstar Silambarasan has now started working on his next film 'Osthi'. The film is a remake of the Hindi blockbuster movie 'Dabangg', starring Salman Khan and Sonakshi Sinha in lead roles. The film is directed by Dharani, who earlier made films like 'Ghilli', 'Dhill' and 'Dhool', which were acclaimed blockbusters. Speaking on the occasion of the movie launch, Dharani said, "We have just taken the plot of the film and have worked on a different screenplay. As soon as we watched the film, we decided that Silambarasan could be the only choice and so it was with 'Jithan' Ramesh, who plays the role of STR's step-brother."

The film is produced by Balaji Real Media Pvt. Ltd. and marks the debut of a former Miss India turned actress, Richa Gangopadhyay in Kollywood. She plays the female lead role opposite Simbu that was enacted by Sonakshi Sinha in the original version.
