29th January 2018

After a lot of struggle to get a censor certificate to bearing some violent protests, Sanjay Leela Bhansali's magnus opus finally shines at the box-office. Indeed, the critics and audiences have loved the film despite the alleged defamation protests from Karni Sena. Everyone has applauded the stellar performances of the lead cast including Ranveer Singh, Deepika Padukone, Shahid Kapoor, even the cinematic artistry of this period drama is sheer class.

Trade Analyst Taran Adarsh revealed the film's box office figures in his tweet that read ''#Padmaavat continues to SPARKLE... Biz on Sat [after a big holiday on Fri] was EXCEPTIONAL... Will comfortably cross ₹ 100 cr mark today [Sun]… Wed [limited preview shows] 5 cr, Thu 19 cr, Fri 32 cr, Sat 27 cr. Total: ₹ 83 cr. India biz.''

On its opening day, not even a single theatre in Madhya Pradesh and Gujarat screened the movie. Even in Goa, the movie was played in a couple of single-screen theatres, and that too amid tight security. The violence was all over that Police were called to tighten security at the residences of Bhansali and Padukone in the city.

An official said, "Some policemen were also deployed inside the cinema halls to thwart any attempt to disrupt the screening." Despite these unfortunate circumstances, the film is going strong at the box-office.

The film is based on the poetry by Malik Mohammad Jayasi titled 'Padmavat'. Viacom18 Motion Pictures released the film to select paid previews across the country on January 24.
