Pakistani ghazal maestro Ghulam Ali invited by AAP Govt to perform in Delhi

8th October 2015

Pakistani ghazal maestro Ghulam Ali was invited by the Arvind Kejriwal Government to perform in Delhi after his concert in Mumbai got cancelled due to strong opposition by the Shiv Sena.

Delhi Culture Minister Kapil Mishra said that the Pakistani singer is welcome to come to Delhi to perform and tweeted, "Sad that #GhulamAli is not being allowed in Mumbai, I invite him to come to Delhi and do the concert. Music has no boundaries. #BanTheBan."

Ghulam Ali's concert in Mumbai was cancelled on Wednesday due to strong opposition from the Shiv Sena who are completely against any Pakistani artists performing in Mumbai.

"We are completely against any form of cultural ties with Pakistan. The country is against us and kills our soldiers, so there's no point why we should let their singer perform here. If the concert is not called off, we will protest in our own style." said Akshay Badrapurkar, general secretary of Chitrapat Sena.

Yuva Sena Chief, Aditya Thackeray also took a firm stand against this issue and defended his party's decision to oppose Ghulam Ali's concert in Mumbai. He said, "We need to show some sensitivity towards our soldiers who are killed at the borders. When there are constant ceasefire violations, our jawans are beheaded, we cannot be having fun with them. We also like the songs of Ghulam Ali, and want better relations with our neighbour. But when they constantly show aggression, we cannot show disrespect towards our soldiers."
