(Cover) - EN Showbiz - Sir Paul McCartney likes to pretend to be Tom Jones when he leaves voicemails for people.
The former Beatles star is good friends with Welsh band Super Furry Animals, and even featured on their 2001 song Receptacle for the Respectable.
Singer Gruff Rhys has spoken about how the group became pals with Paul, revealing they get on well because he has such a great sense of humour.
Cian [Ciaran] from Super Furry Animals organised [for Paul to work on the track]. We were at an awards ceremony in 1999 and Cian realised that Paul McCartney was p**sing beside him at the next urinal. We were hammered and Cian was giving him this speech, Let me do a remix of your tunes, itll be the best thing youve ever heard in your life, he told Q magazine . Cian comes back to the table with Paul McCartney and introduces us and it was pretty amazing. They kept in touch. Paul McCartney used to phone him all the time and leave answering messages doing impressions of Tom Jones and things.
Gruff and the rest of the band comprising Huw Bunford, Guto Pryce, Dafydd Ieuan and Cian were thrilled when Paul took them up on their offer and asked them to remix some of his songs. He was so pleased with the result he agreed to appear on Receptacle for the Respectable, where he is heard chewing celery and carrots.
Anyway, next thing we knew hed sent us a box of unreleased Beatles masters because he wanted a remix. The tapes were of The Beatles jamming in the studio... To return the favour, we asked him if he wouldnt mind playing on our record, he added. (C) Cover Media
