Don't be fooled by its simplicity!!!
A simple story that is hyped unnecessarily, this is what director Priyadarshan's 'Rangrezz' is all about. Three friends who live a normal life, suddenly want to get into a fight and steal their best friend's girl. None worried about a career or any responsibilities.
Rishi (Jackky Bhagnani), Vinu (Amitosh Nagpal) and Pakya (Vijay Verma) are best friends. They live a simple life, where no work or responsibilities worry them. Except one day, they find out that their fourth best friend tries to commit suicide over matters of the heart. That is when the trio jump into action deciding they will put their lives on the line to unite the lovers.
Don't be fooled by the simplicity of the first half. It might talk about friendship and wanting to be there for each other, but it's the second half that takes you for a ride and basically a silly one. All that you heard in the first part, is rubbished in the second (post interval).
In fact the climax and the events leading to it are full of crappy moments which will numb your senses beyond belief. Add to it a bunch of supporting actors (a hamming politician whose loud U.P. dialect matches her garish lipstick, Rajpal Yadav doing what he's done in every Priyadarshan film) dragging down the pace making the proceedings unbearable.
The film does have a good plot, but unfortunately it's not executed very well. There are too many parallel plots, unnecessary diversions, songs that are just not needed and dialogues that don't make much sense.
Among the cast, Vijay Verma plays his part well. Amitosh Nagpal is earnest in his approach but his talent is hidden by a half baked character. Jackky Bhagnani seems at ease playing Rishi. He excels in scenes where he interacts with his friends and exudes confidence.
Priyadarshan tries to give an interesting film, but he loses track midway. Everytime he wants to explore a new ground, he diverts back to the same road of tried and tested elements.
Had the screenplay focused on the dynamics and interpersonal play between the friends and lead to a climax that wasn't bulldozed by heavy dramatics and lengthy dialogues, 'Rangrezz' might have had a different verdict.
Besides, Jackky's 'Gangnam Style' comes at the end. Anyway it doesn't matter, because the song is just messed up with Jackky's crappy hip shaking.
