Reese Witherspoon: I was stressed as a single mother

7th September 2011

(Cover) - EN Showbiz - Reese Witherspoon has opened up about how being a single mother affected her.

The 35-year-old tied the knot with Hollywood agent Jim Toth in March of this year but says before she married him she was stressed about being a single mother.

Reese has two children, Ava, 12 this week, and Deacon, seven, from her union to Ryan Phillippe which ended in 2006 after seven years of marriage.

She said she found the break-up "really traumatic" and was concerned about how the split would affect her young children.

"I was hard on myself when I got divorced," she told Marie Claire. "And until I got remarried, I don't think I realised how stressed I was."

"I don't think I recognised how anxious I was about being a single parent."

Reese dated actor Jake Gyllenhaal in between her first and second marriage.

The Oscar-winning actress shared that life in her household is now great and that Jim is amazing with her children.

She said that he has alleviated the fear she had when she was single that she would not find a man that would accept her kids.

"Somebody close to me once said, Oh no man will ever accept your children.' And I just thought it was the most horrifying thing someone has every said to me in my entire life," she revealed.

"Now I feel a great sense of relief and an incredible amount of support from my husband. I got very lucky and he's wonderful. And so wonderful with my children. I'm very blessed." (C) Cover Media
