9th July 2012

Born in 1925 as Vasanth Kumar Shivashankar Padukone, the legendary Indian film director, producer and actor died as The Great Guru Dutt in 1964.

Today, July the 9th is what would have been his 87th Birthday! And we take this opportunity to toast his quintessential contribution to the Indian Cinema in the 1950s - 60s classics such as Pyaasa, Kaagaz Ke Phool, Sahib Bibi Aur Ghulam and Chaudhvin Ka Chand.

Guru Dutts life altered Hindi cinema when his films made it to Time magazine's "All-TIME" 100 best movies and when 'Sight & Sound critics' and 'Directors poll' regarded Dutt as the greatest film directors of all time.

On his Birthday today, we would like to remember the Man who was termed, "India's Orson Welles".

Over 30 years after his death, in 2010, Dutt was included among CNN's 'Top 25 Asian actors of all time'.

On his 87th birth anniversary, FridayMoviez presents a tribute to the most popular lyrical and artistic film maker, Guru Dutt Saab.

Even today, several of his works have a cult following. His movies go full house when re-released, especially in Germany, France and Japan.

The Best gift you could give this legend today, would be to pick up and relive the memories through the latest book written about him, 'Ten Years with Guru Dutt ,' or by spending the afternoon watching his Classics, Pyaasa or Kaagaz Ke Phool with a hot cup of coffee,
