(Cover) - EN Showbiz - Ronnie Wood has revealed that Mick Hucknall won a place in reformed band Faces because he can "reach all the notes".

The Simply Red frontman was deemed an unlikely choice to replace original Faces singer Rod Stewart by critics, but he won over the other band members with his impressive vocal range.

The 1970 rock group, known for hits such as Stay with Me and Had Me a Real Good Time, are currently travelling the UK on a reunion tour.

Ronnie explained that the band weren't even really trying to find a new lead singer and had planned to cover Rod's vocals between them, when Mick joined them for a charity performance.

"We weren't really looking, but as soon as we heard Mick sing Stay with Me we thought, Game over, because you can reach all the notes'. Rod always sings very high and Mick has the range to do that, so we're getting very close to what we used to do," he told the BBC Breakfast Show.

Mick, who has enjoyed success with Simply Red thanks to hits like Fairground, insists that while it is "fun" to tour with the group, he would immediately step down if Rod was ready to come back because he is a big fan of the group.

The 51-year-old explained that rather than being noble, he would simply love to watch the original line-up, like any other fan.

"Whenever Rod is ready to do it, I'll stand aside and Rod will walk in It's not really [noble], I'm a fan! I'm doing it as a fan and I admire these guys and I admire their music and that's what I'm doing," he said. (C) Cover Media
