Russell Brand: Mirren is too talented

13th April 2011

(Cover) - EN Showbiz - Russell Brand often thought he was carrying Dame Helen Mirren while shooting their new movie, but he was always proved wrong.

The two stars appear alongside each other in Arthur, which is a remake of the classic Dudley Moore comedy. Russell plays the playboy lead role, while Helen is his nanny Hobson.

The pair got along famously on set, with Russell particularly enamoured to see how Helen worked. Although she has won countless awards, including an Oscar, during her career, he admits often thinking he was stealing the show.

One of the things I find with her I havent worked with loads of brilliant actors, Helens the most notable but wed be doing a scene and Id think [does huffy voice], Pah, she aint doing much, Im carrying this, and then youd see it on the monitor, and go, F**king hell! That looks so much better on the screen! There is stuff that they know, people like Helen. Its not fair, he told Stylist.

Helen, 65, received her Academy Award for 2006s The Queen, which also netted her the best actress BAFTA and Golden Globe prizes. She was shocked to pick up so many accolades and admits thinking it might be time to put acting behind her as she wont ever top that performance.

I thought, Wow, this is just amazing. And I was very grateful it had happened now, she said in the joint interview. Obviously you would love it to happen when youre 28 but psychologically its a lot better to have it at this end, and think, Well now I dont have to do any more, its just for me if I do. That grating little thing of ambition, of proving yourself, has gone. (C) Cover Media
